Capvel Capacitance Level Transmitter

Capvel Capacitance Level Transmitter series is a family of level transmitters suitable for liquids. The instruments measure the capacitance between the sense rod and the metallic tank wall and convert it to suitable process output.

Note: The material has to be in direct electrical contact with the ground part of the probe.

This level transmitter finds use in a varied set of industries such as Chemicals, Water treatment plants, Edible Oil, Distilleries, etc. Its variant, named Capvel-FUEL, is a volumetric fuel level sensor and is ideal for applications in Vehicle Tracking Systems, DG sets (Telecom).

Capvel series of instruments measure the capacitance between 2 terminals, the sense rod and the ground terminal. The metallic tank wall acts a ground terminal. In case of non-conductive tanks, a still well is used to provide a ground reference.

  • 4-20 mA current output, RS-485 Modbus-RTU, Voltage output

Application specific probes

Co-centric Probe for low dielectric liquids (100mm – 2000mm)

Materials such as diesel, petrol have low dielectric constants. An all-metal probe with closely spaced pipes achieves greater precision than a Full-PTFE insulated probe.

Full-PTFE insulated probe (100mm – 3500mm)

The “most generic” probe for a wide range of materials. The probe has proven its versatility by catering to applications such as food grains, viscous fluids (epoxy), water, acids (where the metallic ground is in electrical contact with the application material / tank), edible oil, dyes, chemicals.

Full-PTFE Rope probe (2000mm – 6000mm)

2mm / 10mm / 12mm SS-316 Full-PTFE insulated rope. Thickness of the rope can vary as per the requirement of strength and budget for automation.

Calibration-free Probes (200mm – 2000mm)

These special probes do not require calibration in any material. Once factory calibrated in a particular media, the instrument is fit to work in all free-flowing liquids.

Temperature Compensation

Varying process temperatures can cause the electronics of the circuit to drift. Capvel series has on board a temperature compensation mechanism which negates any effect of temperature drift.

Dielectric of the application material also changes with the temperature. In such cases, the ‘calibration-free probes’ can be used to compensate the effect of changing dielectric constant.
