Context is Important

Even Industry veterans cannot keep up with the changing lingo in the automation industry. The challenge with the lingo in automation is that common english words have nuanced contextual meaning.

e.g An Alarm Signal is raised under undersirable condition. Fire Alarm is signaled in case of Fire. For Level Measurement an Alarm Condition is different for a :

  • High Level Sensor: In most cases Alarm condition is considered when material overflows from the vessel or when level sensor is covered
  • Low Level Sensor: In most cases Alarm condition is considered when the vessel is empty or when the level sensor is uncovered
