This type of protection is applicable to electrical apparatus in which the electrical circuit themselves are incapable of causing an explosion in surrounding explosive atmospheres
Type of Protection Level : three type of protection level ia, ib, and ic
ia : Very High Protection Level - safe after two consecutive malfunctions
ib : High Protection Level - safe after one malfunction
ic : Normal Protection Level - safe under normal operation conditions
As per the Indian standards the explosive gases are classified under two broad categories viz.
i. Group I – Methane
ii. Group II is subdivided into three types, viz. IIA, IIB, IIC
IIA represents Propane
IIB represents Ethylene
IIC represents Hydrogen and Acetylene
Temperature Classification : Temperature Classification is based on the maximum temperature which any relevant part of the equipment which may be in contact with a flammable (explosive) gas, can reach.
