SPEED-O-PILOT is an intelligent & versatile
speed limit switch suitable for detecting two
under speed and over speed of rotating,
reciprocating or conveying equipment. It can
also detect a missing object amongst a series of
continuously moving objects, moving at a
constant speed, such as, a missing bucket in a
bucket elevator, a missing object on a conveyor
belt etc. it also gives an indication when the
system is at rest (zero speed).
Salient Features
Three independent relays for two under speed and

Accurate pulse rate (speed) evaluation with
optimum response.
Easy to install. Flashing LED (in the probe
head) indicates that the moving target is within
the
sensing range & facilitates target to detector
distance setting.
Easy to calibrate. The instrument can be
calibrated prior to mounting, if the speed
(buckets per
min) of the system is known. Programming is user
friendly & menu driven, accomplished by 4
push button keys.
4 digit LED display indicates the speed in
pulses per minute (objects per min.) and aids in
programming. Scaling factor available to achieve
RPM indication.
Built-in start-up delay programmable upto 99
seconds with provision for interlocking with
controlled equipment.
Programmable set point and switching hysteresis.
4 LED indicators provided. Green LED indicates
receipt of input pulses (when flashing), 2 red
LED’s indicate under speed alarm & Over speed
alarm and yellow LED indicates power ON
status.
A non-volatile memory stores the program
parameters & calibration data indefinitely
without the
necessity of battery back-up.
Application
Monitors speed of conveyors
and bucket elevators and signals an alarm if the
speed falls below the set speed. It can also be
used as a missing bucket detector and zero speed
indicator. Special sensor detects moving ferrous
objects from 100mm distance. High temperature
models upto 200º C are available.
System Description
The speed monitoring system
comprises of a motion detector
probe (MDP) with pre-amplifier
(PA) & an evaluation unit (EU).
The MDP is designed for
temperatures up to 120º C
standard (200º C special) and
has a large sensing range of
100mm. It operates on the
reluctance principle. It has
SS casing with an aluminum
mounting flange and a tri-clamp
arrangement for easy adjustment
of target distance. An
electronic insert is housed in
the cast aluminum probe head
provided with a suitable cable
gland. An electromagnetic shield
covers the rear of the probe to
minimize interference from stray
electromagnetic fields. When MDP
is suitably installed to sense
the moving target, the PA
outputs pulses whose frequency
is proportional to the speed of
the moving target. These pulses
are transmitted to the EU. A
microprocessor in the EU
processes the signal
intelligently and operates the
relays accordingly. When speed
is less than the programmed set
point, under speed relay changes
state after considering the
programmed value of hysteresis.
If a missing object is detected,
missing object relay operates &
if speed is more than the
programmed set point, time, the
over speed relay operates.
Desired value of start-up delay
can be programmed upto 99
seconds. The output contacts of
the relays can be used for
control or alarm annunciation.
While in operation, the display
indicates the actual speed in
pulses per minute.
