Sapcon’s Solution for Loss Of Head & Rate of Flow

Sapcon provides solutions for measuring “Loss of Head” (LoH) (differential level) between upstream and downstream of the filter screen in open channels of WTP’s / ETP’s, filtration stations, water management systems, etc.

Sapcon also provides solutions for measuring “Rate of Flow” (RoF) of running water in open channels in WTP’s and ETP’s. Both applications can be achieved through two different principles, namely Ultrasonic-type and Capacitance-type.

Loss of Head

Two capacitance probes with pre-amplifier & still well (grounding pipe) on either side of the filter screen translate the level change into an electric signal by using the principle of capacitance. The relative difference between the two signals is processed by the evaluation unit and displayed as ‘LOSS OF HEAD’ digitally.

  • Built-in weir selection for rectangular suppressed, rectangular contracted, triangular & cipoletti weirs
  • Two-wire sensor, galvanically isolated 4-20mA output
  • Values of n are available in x.xx format, where n = 2.48 (example) is required.
  • Works on both 90-265 V AC / 24 V DC
  • Built-in “time-aware” advanced totalizer eliminating the need for external hardware totalizer
  • Calibration allowed in mm

Rate of Flow

Whenever the liquid flows through a hydraulic measuring device (weir), the level of the liquid in weir is directly proportional to the rate of flow. By knowing the constants of the weir, flow rate can be calculated by using the following formula:

Q=KL , where Q is rate of flow in cubic meters per hour, L is the level in meters, K & n are constants that depend on the hydraulic device.
